could be reached with hoses laid from the Fire Engine stationed
at Kowloon,or
or from the Floating Fire Engine, and at low tide
the former would be unable to work except in a few localities,
while the hoses from the latter would in the majority of places
have to be laid over bridges of boats owing to shoal water.

It is therefore urgently necessary to take steps for
the provision of a larger water supply which will also enable
the installation of fire hydrants, and I would urge the desira—
bility of providing in the Estimates for next year a sum to
enable the construction of the first of the works proposed by
Mr.Gibbs (if the Consulting Engineer approves of it ) being
proceeded with,
